David Eugene Edwards exist in 2004. Their melody was usually grave in tone with distinct Christianreligious lyrics commerce by means of conflict and redemption. After releasing four studio albums and touring extensively, the band broke up in 2005, citing "mostly political plus spiritual" differences.

Rear in Denver, the band once once more became a trio as Edwards aged acquaintance Keven Soll, a luthier plus accomplished double bass player, connected the band. Frustrated by misconceptions about the person's name Horsepower life form related to heroin and inspired by a traditional American folk song about 16 livestock pulling the coffin of a beloved to the graveyard, the name was changed to 16 Horsepower. Following differences about the musical way, Soll was asked to go away plus was replaced by Rob Redick. Redick did not previous long because of what the band has referred to as "kind of a mutual unhappiness", and Humbert took over the bass duties.

Edwards and Norlander had previously been in more than a few bands together, most notably The Denver Gentlemen. Norlander departed again in 1998 plus was replaced by Steve Taylor, the band's guitar technician, who had by now been drama on a handful of songs on the bands European tour in 1996. As hinted by the title, this fourth studio book took the band further into traditional folk territory and featured merely four unique 16 Horsepower compositions. While the group went on more than a few tours in support of the album, their creative output was focused on Woven Hand and Lilium, the latter which had now been joined by Tola. 16 Horsepower and Edwards' later project Wicker Hand were described by single critic as "incendiary gospel, hallowed folk plus caustic tones infused with a far above the ground, dark theatricality worthy of Cut Cave.

This experience coloured his approach to songwriting as healthy as the instrumentation employed to develop the band's sole sound. On more than a few tracks in excess of the route of the band's career, Edwards evoked decisive Christian imagery, chiefly so as to of the redemptive capacity of Jesus Christ. 16 Horsepower, particularly in their early existence, saw themselves primary and foremost as a rock band.

David Eugene Edwards, however, had an interest in all things from past era, counting musical instruments. One instrument that was supreme during the nascent days of 16 Horsepower was the Chemnitzer concertina. One time bassplayer Steal from Redick went on to link Candlebox in 1999.
