Eastside is an region in the east of Birmingham city centre core in England currently beneath going a major redevelopment project. Archaeological excavations at the Metropolis Park Gate place exposed soil that had been used on farms. It is known that a significant region had been bought by the English monarchy plus was used as a deer game commons.

A number of of this region stretched keen on the Eastside of Birmingham. The only surviving fraction of this is Commons Road Gardens. The land was sold and slowly began to expand on one occasion again as farm land. During the Industrial Revolution, the region was home to a massive complex of factories and workshops and was accessed by part of the canal network, most notably the Digbeth Branch Inland waterway which bisects the area.

The Impressive Union Canal is located along the boundaries of the region and meets the Digbeth Bough Canal at Warwick Saloon. However, as the industry in the area subsided, the area fell keen on decline and many of the unique factory buildings became derelict. The aged Victorianfactory buildings were never maintained and the canals became dirty and clogged with only little stretches life form cleaned. Little independent businesses enthused into the area. A major brewery was located near Curzon Street Position plus this resulted in the organization of a public house further downward the street which currently exists as a Grade II listed building.

The River Rea, which remains largely hidden due to high brick walls surrounding it constructed in Victorian times, also flows to the extreme east of the region. The stream is crossed at Deritend Viaduct. Unluckily, it was located too distant from the metropolis centre plus it was not winning.

It unsuccessful as a passenger station and close down in 1966 as a goods station. Bartholomew Line received its name as of Saint Bartholomew Church, which was built next to it. The church was surrounded by Park Road Gardens which were considerably slash down in dimension due to surrounding development. Fraction of the serious yard of the church still leftovers.

The first plan unveiled was called the 1996 Digbeth Millennium Quarter Plan which presented proposals for the area approximately Digbeth plus parts of Eastside. The 1998 Bull Circle and Markets Quarter Diagram contained guidance to the Digbeth and Deritend area. Large level projects which involved the renovation, demolition and reparation of the area in progress to be aired to the public. The primary of these projects to be completed was Millennium Point which was completed in 2002 to replace the Birmingham Science Museum. On February 1, 2002, a masterplan for the Eastside was developed by HOK International plus this set absent the basic developments.

The first fraction of the plan to be implemented was the demolition of a large eminent road junction called Masshouse Circus plus the Inner Ring Street to obvious ground intended for development. This was part of a better diagram to remove sections of the Internal Circle Road. Masshouse Circus had restricted development out of the east of the city due to its proximity and dimension resulting in it receiving the person's name "concrete collar".

A bid for money from the European Regional Development Fund was successful and this allowable the destruction of Masshouse Circus likely. This area is now life form developed by means of the construction of highrise apartment plus place of work blocks with one block complete and another under construction. Other buildings completed in the area include the New Technology Institute, finished in 2006, and also the renovation of Island House keen on a base for a redevelopment company. Matthew Boulton College also built a novel main facility in 2005 plus overlooks the Masshouse site. Both Matthew Boulton College and the New Skill Institute were the primary buildings to be built on what will be the Knowledge plus Leisure Zone.

The Custard Factory is once more set for an expansion with the refurbishment of the adjacent Devonshire House life form approved by Birmingham City Committee in August 2007. Deritend is too expected to witness a vast amount of redevelopment. Deritend Viaduct (so called because of its location near a bridge which crossed the Stream Rea called Deritend Bridge) was a large residential development planned for the area.

It received outline planning consent however the land was then sold by the developers to one more company. The growth in Deritend extends towards the Bordesley region which is exterior the Eastside boundaries. An area alongside Fazeley Street in Digbeth named Warwick Saloon, has become the focus of redevelopment itself with the construction of new modern buildings and a reinstatement project of an old Victorian storage facility.

Its location is not known according to a developments document issued though it would most probable be at Warwick Bar. A lot of development determination be centred around this building. The bulk of the growth is centred approximately Curzon Street railway station and the length of Curzon Road which gives its name to two developments to the rear of the station which began with the demolition of a Parcel Power Storehouse.

An outline preparation request was submitted by the developers on July 27, 2007. This development is separated as of a development behind it by the Digbeth Bough Canal. This smaller development is called Curzon Gate which will include a twelve plus an eleven storey tower block containing confidential and student dwellings which determination be located on the former Castle Strengthen silos place. First sketches of Curzon Gate showed a 25 storey tower though this was not built-in in the preparation request. Curzon Gate was deferred on October 12, 2006 due to Part 106 payments and is currently under construction.

The restaurant is to be demolished, along with the relax of the building, to make way for the Eastside City Park. After that to this is single of the main of the projects which determination observe big areas of ground life form transformed keen on a metropolis commons. This determination be called Metropolis Commons plus determination wrap eight acres. It determination also incorporate an already existing commons named Park Street Gardens which contains a burial earth plus was on one occasion part of a large deer commons. Little areas of land such as the plot to the east of Millennium Point contain been under the interest of development companies.

The land next to Millennium Tip was the centre of local attention from the media when it was exposed that a growth company was to submit a planning application for the formation of a 175 metre tall vertical theme park called The Summit or Pinnacle Tower. The preparation request is up till now to be submitted. The land was originally intended for the Ventureast development however it was decided to be sold to the developer in 2006. 29 entries were submitted from the UK plus abroad plus the companies were necessary to create a presentation and be interviewed about their intentions for the city park. The six final entries to the global design competition, were released by Birmingham Metropolis Council in October 2006.

Leaflets were placed around Birmingham allowing the public to vote intended for their favourite design. Architects who submitted entries were Broadway Malyan, Camlin Lonsdale, Gillespies LLP, Disgusting Pass with flying colors, Gustafson Porter and Patel Taylor. The region further than the metropolis commons to the eastern boundary of Eastside is to be urbanized in a growth named Ventureast. One more area of land next to Fasten Road railway position which was freed up by the destruction of Masshouse Circus will be home to a development named City Park Gate.
