Off includes Armstrong on guitar plus vocals, Freeman on bass and lyrics, Lars Frederiksen on guitar and vocals, plus Branden Steineckert on drums. The band was formed by Armstrong, Freeman, plus former drummer Brett Reed, who absent the group in 2006 plus was replaced by Branden Steineckert. Frederiksen joined Rancid in 1993 at what time the group was searching for a second guitar player. When Operation Ivy broke up they decided to form a novel band, and started a Hardcore punk group called Generator, who would quickly smash up. Freeman briefly toured with Social Distortion in 2004 as John Maurer's replacement until they found their present bassist Brent Harding. This was their first occasion the band had played together as the hiatus.
