It is comprised entirely of traditional folk songs, plus is Dylan's first completely solo, acoustic album as One more Surface of Bob Dylan in 1964. It is also his primary collection to not feature some original compositions. Following recording Under the Crimson Sky in 1990, Dylan would not let go an unique song awaiting 1997, and during that time, he would increasingly rely on his stockpile of covers for 'fresh' material. According to Dylan's friend Susan Ross, Good as I Been to You began existence as a contractual filler. The intention was to smash up the Bromberg recordings by means of a few solo performances in between.

As persons garage sessions progressed, tactics were changed, plus the Bromberg recordings were pulled from the album. It was made clear that Dylan was satisfied with the results he was getting in his garage studio, particularly in the minimal manufacture work given to the recordings. A number of publications, including Folk Roots, criticized the album for making this mistake.

Two years later, the recording appeared in Oliver Stone's controversial film, Usual Born Killers. A figure of critics pointed out that Dylan's voice was now physically ravaged, but the focus was frequently on the phrasing. The result is not so a great deal nostalgia.

as deeply inner. Good as I Been to You was winning sufficient to warrant a sequel, and in fewer than a year, Dylan would return to the studio to do just that.
